Dolomites Alta Via 1 · Hut-to-Hut
Eight days hut-to-hut across the pale spires of the Dolomites.
A women-only, hut-to-hut traverse of the Alta Via 1 · the Dolomites' most storied long-distance trail. From the emerald mirror of Lago di Braies to the high passes above Passo Giau, you'll move between rifugi each night, sleeping in mountain huts and eating three-course dinners prepared by hut wardens. Eight days, paced for the experience rather than the mileage, with a dedicated LUX female lead handling every reservation and transfer so you walk carrying only what you need.

The Itinerary
Day by day
Arrival in Dobbiaco
Settle into our South Tyrolean base, meet your LUX lead and the group of eight, gear check and a welcome dinner in town.
Lago di Braies → Rifugio Sennes
The classic start at the emerald Lago di Braies, a steady climb on path 1 to Rifugio Biella, then path 6/6A into the high plateau and Rifugio Sennes. ~5h · 11.5 km.
Sennes → Rifugio Muntagnoles
An easier day on path 7 through green meadows to Pederu, then up to the Fanes basin and the beloved Rifugio Muntagnoles · a short walk to Lake Le Vert. ~3.5h · 9.7 km.
Muntagnoles → Rifugio Scotoni
Toward Fanes on path 11, then 20B over Forcella de Lago with lingering snow and a dramatic switchback descent to Lago Lagazuoi and on to Rifugio Scotoni. ~4.25h · 11.5 km.
Scotoni → Rifugio Lagazuoi
The hardest day by far · steep ascents and long descents across exposed terrain, with the option of the Lagazuoi cable car to ease the final pull. Reward: a sunset over the whole range. ~6h.
Lagazuoi → Passo Giau
Down toward Passo Giau and the Forcella Giau area, where trail markings thin out · we budget extra time and move together. The pale walls close in for the most cinematic miles of the route.
Descent to Villanova · Tre Cime farewell
Final descent to Villanova, then a celebratory detour to the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop before our farewell dinner back in Dobbiaco.

The Experience
More about the week
The Alta Via 1 isn't a race · it's a slow, cinematic walk through the most photographed mountains in Italy. We run it for eight days rather than six, so you arrive at each rifugio with light to spare, sit on the terrace with a cold drink, and watch the limestone turn pink at sunset. Most women come solo and leave with seven new friends. You should be comfortable hiking five to six hours with a 20·40 lb pack on steep, sometimes exposed trail · no technical climbing, but honesty about your fitness keeps the whole group moving well. We book the huts (Lagazuoi and Sennes fill first), we carry the safety kit, we know where the trail markings near Forcella Giau go thin. You bring boots, a sense of adventure, and the willingness to be quietly transformed.
